My parenting journey began at 22 weeks and 5 days.

That’s when my son was born — weighing just one pound and two ounces. He spent the first five months of his life in the ICU, fighting for every breath. Over the next five years, our days were filled with therapies, specialists, and milestones that came through hard-won perseverance.

When he finally started kindergarten, I thought we had turned a corner. But within the first week, he was kicked off the school bus. I was told to see a developmental-behavioral pediatrician. The waitlist in the D.C. area? Eighteen to twenty-four months.

That moment — the bus, the referral, the endless wait — marked the true beginning of my parenting journey. Not just as a mother, but as an advocate, researcher, and coordinator.”
